The Benefits of Using Concrete Stumps

Hello, my name is Harold. I am quite new to using the internet. My granddaughter taught me how to use this computer so I decided to start a blog. I didn't have an idea for what I should base my blog on. My wife suggested that I start a home and garden blog. I should make it clear that I am not a home and garden expert so all this advice consists of things I have learnt myself or been taught by others when I have been working on my own property. I hope you enjoy my blog and find it useful.

The Benefits of Using Concrete Stumps

You have probably walked around a water body and seen the decks elevated with stumps to offer support and some height from the ground. Concrete stumps resemble a single footing in a deck. The stumps are used to offer support to the pier making it stable and durable due to the use of concrete in their construction. They are foundation stumps which entirely support the structure of the house or pier built upon it. The concrete stumps come in various types according to their characteristics. One example is the threaded stumps which are characterised by a secured 10mm diameter threaded rod at the top. Another example is the hanger stumps which can as well be regarded to as re-blocking stumps. They are comprised of bent rods at the top used to attach the stumps to existing barriers. Lastly, there are the standard stumps which are commonly used by builders; these feature a protruding steel rod which is placed through a drilled hole in the bearer. The steel rod is afterwards bent to keep the stump in place. Concrete stumps pack several advantages which make many people consider them over their alternatives. Some of the benefits are explained further below:

  1. Durability – Concrete stumps are quite durable and can last for years without needing repairs or replacements. This is mainly because of the physical composition of concrete and its sturdy nature after setting in. The concrete stumps can also withstand a lot of soil conditions. Concrete stumps do not rot or decay meaning that they can offer longer service for the users. They are also resistant to both heat and humidity from the ground and can withstand all weather conditions. Such characteristics make the concrete stumps more reliable as they maintain their structure and solidity. Once the concrete stumps have been installed into the ground, the home owners will be left with only little maintenance. This will be achieved through observing the stumps after some time to ensure that no cracks are forming on them.
  2. Non-combustible – Concrete is quite a weak material when it comes to flammability. Its chemical and physical composition does not give the leeway for it to catch fire making the concrete stumps quite advisable to use. The foundations constructed from the concrete stumps, therefore, offer both safety as well as security for the entire structure during fire breakouts.
  3. Maximum Support – Concrete stumps are also known for their hardy nature leading to more strength and support for the walls and floor of the house. The concrete structures are less likely to break or become weak as they distribute the entire weight of the floors in an even manner, thus, preventing tear and wear in the foundation.
