7 Pest Control Tips for Spring

Hello, my name is Harold. I am quite new to using the internet. My granddaughter taught me how to use this computer so I decided to start a blog. I didn't have an idea for what I should base my blog on. My wife suggested that I start a home and garden blog. I should make it clear that I am not a home and garden expert so all this advice consists of things I have learnt myself or been taught by others when I have been working on my own property. I hope you enjoy my blog and find it useful.

Although winters are usually mild in Australia, wintertime still brings some needed relief from the pests that plague homeowners. But springtime doesn't just bring back the warmer weather, it also brings back the pests. That's why you need to be prepared before spring arrives. With the right preparation, you can keep pests from invading and infesting your home next spring.

1. Get rid of outdoor clutter

Spring pests will need a place to nest for the coming year, and clutter situated near your home is the ideal nesting site. Rodents like clutter, as do many types of insect pests like spiders, cockroaches and bees. Remove all clutter out of your yard to deprive pests of a place to nest and hide.

2. Eliminate all possible food sources

Spring pests need a food supply too. This means that you should clean up all possible sources of food, like pet food residue, rotting wood and old leaves. The more food sources your home has, the more pests will appear.

3. Keep rubbish covered well

If your rubbish bin is old, spring is the time to get a new, sturdy one that can keep rodents out. And this is a good time to start covering up your rubbish as much as possible. It attracts flies, which, in turn, attract spiders.

4. Keep your garden well-trimmed

If you keep your garden well-trimmed, pests will have fewer places to hide and nest. Rodents love gardens with long grass and overgrown shrubs because they can hide as they move around. And mosquitoes hide in long grass as in between blood meals. Trim your trees too because pests can use tree branches to reach your roof.

5. Clean your gutters

Clogged gutters attract all manner of pests. For instance, a clogged gutter can provide termites with moisture and birds with nesting materials. Clean out your gutters to deprive pests of the resources they need to thrive.

6. Repair the exterior of your home

Since spring brings out the pests, this is a good time to examine the exterior of your home for areas that need to be repaired. Seal cracks and holes, repair flashing and cladding and check that your windows and doors are tightly sealed.

7. Hire pest control to apply a barrier spray

You can hire a pest control company to apply a barrier spray to the area around your home, including the walls. This spray will keep insects from invading your property. Contact a pest control company to learn more.
